If you are purchasing an internal DVD burner drive, then you are going to be spending a bit of time installing it. Currently the majority of DVD burners need and IDE interface to connect. The newest drives offer a Serial ATA (SATA) way of connecting; which means that the DVD burner requires less space and assists with airflow inside your desktop case.
Most computers come with internal DVD burner drives. If you find it necessary to update an older model with a new drive, make sure you read all of your computer manufacturer’s advice in the manual on updating your computer with new hardware.
Following the physical installation of the hardware, you will generally be required to install software to update the drivers of the computer to recognize and use the internal DVD burners. It is generally also good practice at this time to install any DVD burning software that comes with your new hardware. Often, the software has useful applications you might have not been aware of before installing them.
One advantage of an internal drive is in it not being portable! If you don’t have a need to carry your computer different places, then you don’t have the hassle of another external cord for your computer. Your DVD drive will be protected more from dirt inside the case. The other advantage with internal DVD burners is the price. You will end up paying less for an internal DVD drive rather than an external one.
